Nba All Stars – Who is Better, Bryant or James?

And it is more incredible if these performances happen in a span of four days and dished out by two of the games best players, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

With the way the two stars are performing, both have placed their teams into the top of their divisions and are the leaders in their respective conferences  for seats in the playoffs and have also placed themselves as the two leading contenders for the Most Valuable Player award for the regular season.

A closer inspection of the statitical points table show James averaging 28.5 points in scoring to place second while Bryant has 27.5 for third place. Dwyane Wade tops the list with 28.5. In the points, rebounds and assists category James leads with a 43 points average with Bryant at third once again with a 38.5 and Wade at second with 40.7.

But the comparison between the two does not end with their averages. Overall the two have been singled out because of their similarities in their style of play. Bryant has relished the idea of being the LA Lakers’ go to guy. The 6-6, 205 lbs. shooting guard is in his 12th season and is so motivated to help his team win the NBA championship after losing to Boston last season. He has unbelievable range when it comes to scoring and holds the highest points scored in a game with 81 points. Although the Lakers have Pal Gasol and Andrew Bynum, the offense usually revolves around him. He has evolved his game though from being a pure shooter to a hard nosed defender as well.

James on the other hand, is 6-8 and weighs 250 lbs and plays the small forward position. His skills to dribble and shoot the basketball and hand out assists as if he is a point guard coupled with his leaping ability that makes him rebound the ball well have been the reasons why the Cleveland Cavaliers have the best record in the Easter Conference with a 39-9 mark. He has been playing with the Cavs ever since he was drafted and now is in his fifth season. He led his team to the NBA finals  in 2007 after he singlehandedly beat the Detroit Pistons in the conference finals. However, the Cavs lost to the San Antonio Spurs in a sweep during the finals. He loved the experience of playing in the finals that he has set out to lead his team to reach it once again.

Both played in the Olympic team. However, it was obvious that both players seemed to be competing to be the top guy in the team. Whether or not James and Bryant did strike a friendship together remains to be seen whenever the Lakers and Cavaliers meet.

It is amazing then that fans at the Madison Square Garden were treated to these two players outstanding talents. Bryant scored 61 points in the match against the New York Knicks. He established the record of scoring the highest points in a game in MSG by a visiting player at that. Bernard King of the Knicks previously owned the record at 60, done in December 25, 1984. Jordan held second place at 55.

James had other ideas as an encore to Bryant’s feat. He scored 52 points and at the same time posted 11 assists and 10 rebounds and became the second player behind Kareem Abdul Jabbar to have a 50 point triple double. Jabbar did it in 1975. He may not have broken Bryant’s 61 points but he showcased his all around game.

The Lakers face the Cavaliers on February 8. It shall be interesting to witness who shall come out on top. Watch the live basketball scores of this game at ScoresPro.com/basketball/

Is the Austin Real Estate Market Getting Better?

Austin Real Estate tumbled and touched the bottom-most point like any other real estate market of the United States. Property price was going down, and in the last two years this continuous drop in price caused many Austin realtors to panic. Many Austin homes were up for sale, but no buyers were looking at it, and home owners lost their hope. Hence, “Austin Homes for sale” placard was gathering dust, as no one cared about it anymore.

Then came February, and it brought the good news. Congress approved American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 sanctioned $8,000 tax credit to the first-time home buyers. Thanks to this legislation, the buying sentiment returned to the market.

Since then, the Austin real estate market has recovered a great deal. And the news that Austin will be among two cities to recover earliest from recession is adding up to the positive market sentiment in Austin.

Real estate studies

According to a new nation forecast by IHS Global Insight, Austin and its Texan cousin San Antonio will be the two cities that will be quickest in beating the economic recession.

According to the study conducted by the Brookings Institute, Austin is among the Top 20 best performing metropolitan area in the second quarter of 2009, as said the report published in Austin Business Journal.

In the second quarter, Austin has also been found leading the pack on many of the 9 metrics tracked by MetroMonitor for100 U.S. cities. These metrics included things like metropolitan products, and percentage change in housing price, etc.

There are many reports that coming that shares the same sentiment, which compelled me that I should find some data to match the prediction. Hence, I am going to provide here some hard data as evidence to corroborate with these and several other studies.

Austin Real Estate marketing data The Austin home sale in July 2009 has torched the mark set in July 2008, as reported by Austin Board of REALTORS. In July ’09, 2,069 homes were sold, where as in July ’08, 2,068 homes were sold. The median home price was also just 2% at $191,500 below the median home price in the same month last year. This data might not have looked positive in the bullish market, but given the state of Austin real estate in this year, this can be seen as a good recuperation. $508,810,549 was the total value of single-family properties sold in July 2009. In August 09, total house sold: 1706; average listing: $255,966; median listing: $195,750; average sold: $246,372; median sold: $190,000. In September 09, total house sold: 1639, 0.61% rise since September 08 (1629); average listing: $257,361, 0.69% rise since September 08 ($255,585); median listing: $194,900, 2.63% rise since September 08 ($189,900); average sold: $246,185, 0.04% rise since September 08 ($246,079); median sold: $188,500, 1.89% raise since September 08 ($185,000). Most of the U.S. cities are still struggling, but 17% of total homes that had “Austin Home for Sale” placard have found the buyers. To put it plainly, Austin has seen a 17% decline in home inventory, and witnessed increase in sale. The Brookings Institute’s study found out that the Austin house price is up by 2.4% over the past year while the US house price is down by 6.3% over the same period. Conclusion

As it is evident from the data given above that the predictions and forecasting made by national as well as Austin realtors are proving to be true. The Austin real estate market is heating up as the market sentiment is back into the buying mode. The confidence in the home owners are back, and now, no “Austin Home for Sale” placard is gathering dust.

Texas can do better for uninsured

Imagine this: Your state has a health-care system that has the highest number of uninsured adults in the country, quality of care that falls far below what we know can be achieved and millions of adults suffering, and sometimes dying, from things that could have been prevented if they had timely access to health care. And then, amid all that, you get hit by a never-before seen strain of pandemic flu.

No imagination needed; this is actually happening right now in Texas. A recent report by The Commonwealth Fund Commission on a High Performance Health System ranked Texas an embarrassing 46th overall in health care out of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Even more disturbing, we were dead-last in health insurance for adults and children, with 30 percent of adults and 20 percent of children in Texas uninsured.

H1N1 has hit Texas especially hard. Although the pandemic hasn’t been as devastating as initially feared, it has exposed major flaws in our marginal health care system like not having “medical homes” and electronic medical records that would allow us to quickly and easily coordinate vaccination efforts targeting those at risk.

Instead, to meet demand for care, some doctors have had to see patients in alternative sites, such as tents in parking lots and mobile units. The ultimate flaw is the uninsured who suffer the most during an epidemic like this because they don’t have the ability, or resources, to see a doctor.

As a pediatrician and director of health in San Antonio, I watch these scenarios play out daily. I find it maddening because we know a high-performing health-care system would smooth the way for excellent care for everyone and protect us in times of crisis. Instead, we have a fractured, fragmented system that puts us all at risk.

While I believe there are many areas where Texas needs to improve, it all has to start with health insurance. Having 30 percent of adults without health insurance is a terrible stressor on our health-care system in the best of times, let alone in a crisis. To that end, Texans should support any health reform that will ensure that we all have affordable access to essential health care services. Without it, we’ll always be behind, struggling under the weight of a population that is sicker than it needs to be.

Beyond health insurance, we should look to strengthen our primary-care system, increase the use of electronic medical records, improve quality and reduce health care disparities.

Texas has a long, proud history; we can and must do better than when it comes to health care. Let’s not ignore the warnings given by the research and by the real-life experience of H1N1. Let’s stand up and take action to ensure that we have a strong health care system that works for each of us every day.

Why Is The First Thing Activists Say Ice Audits Are Tearing Families Part. Didn’t Actvists Also Say Better?

Why is the first think activists say is ICE audit is tearing families part. Didn’t activists also say better illegal immigration be left up to the feds and when the feds do it,the activists start in on audits are tearing families part and the feds must not enforce immigration matters ? EL PASO — At least 41 businesses in El Paso will be part of a national audit of 1,000 businesses by federal officials looking for immigration violations in hiring workers.
The audit will be among the biggest in El Paso by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a move that drew immediate criticism from a local immigrant-rights group.
The local businesses chosen for audits were not named, but the agency said on its Web site that all the businesses selected for inspection were the “result of investigative leads and intelligence É and connection to public safety and national security.”
The Border Network for Human Rights, based in El Paso, opposed the audits.
“We are saddened and disappointed that two years after the disastrous 2007 immigration raids that tore apart families and penalized American businesses, the federal government is once again adopting a shortsighted enforcement-only approach to immigration policy,” the group said in a prepared statement.
The group also said the federal government should concentrate its efforts on fighting crimes along the border such as drug trafficking and gang activity instead of “harassing hardworking families and business owners.”
Of the 1,000 businesses nationwide, 161 are in Texas. In addition to the ones in El Paso, there are about 60 in the San Antonio area and 40 in the Houston area.
When the audits will take place and how they will be conducted has not been announced.
“ICE is focused on finding and penalizing employers who believe they can unfairly get ahead by cultivating illegal workplaces,” ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton said on the agency’s Web site.
According to The Associated Press, dairy farmers in Vermont were among the businesses getting notifications from immigration officials to turn over payroll and hiring records, said Kelly Loftus, spokeswoman for the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.
Some dairy farmers say they use foreign workers because it is hard to find people locally for the work.
Richard Dayoub, president and CEO of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, said, “They (ICE) are really taking an effort by their part to understand the depth of the problem. I’m not sure what they will accomplish.”
At the same time, the Homeland Security Department announced it would give a seal of approval to businesses volunteering to use an electronic program to check workers’ immigration status.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Thursday that the public should know which companies are following the law. The problem is that the program known as E-Verify is still under development, and the law does not require employers to use it. They are required to use a paper system.
E-Verify is an Internet- based system that allows employers to voluntarily determine the eligibility of new hires to work in the United States, using information provided on the employee’s I-9 form.
The E-Verify campaign is being promoted by ICE as a way to help employers maintain a legal work environment.
“All employers have an obligation to assure that they have a work force that complies with the law,” El Paso Mayor John Cook said. “They E-Verify system will implement technology to assist employers with that responsibility.”
Cindy Ramos-Davidson, CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said she felt that the E-Verify system was not up to speed, and that all it took was one small error to set up a business for litigation.
The last nationwide audit conducted by ICE resulted in 14,000 suspicious documents.
The Border Network for Human Rights said in its statement that it “hopes that the Obama administration will rethink this outdated strategy and keep his campaign promise to implement comprehensive immigration reform.”http://www.elpasotimes.com/ci_13837362?s…
Why do activists feel illegals should not be held to any standard in the work place and ICE should not bother illegals even when they use document , stolen documents as such documents enable illegal to have a better life and current laws are unjust. People feel its ok to break laws without any punishment since what they are doing is offering them a better life ? Is this how
activists believe our immigration laws must be directed ?

Looking To Move To Tx From Nyc. Is San Antonio Or Houston Better??

I’m looking to move to TX from NYC. I have never been to TX. I might buy a 2 bedroom condo and pay that off in 5 years or something and then buy a home around 400K…. something like that… right now we’re looking into San Antonio and Houston. Can a Texan or someone that’s been around TX recommend a good place to live in TX and why? We want to get away from New York. We’re used to a very urban lifestyle and even Houston would feel like a rural area to us… but we want a change… Any thoughts??? What’s the best place in TX to move? & why?
(money isn’t an issue.. so please don’t use that as a reason… because moving from Manhattan to ANYWHERE in TX seems cheap.. ha)
